Author: Tucker Max
Read: February 2008
Verdict: Hilarious
This New York Times Bestseller is definitely worth the $12 I paid for it. However, I was a little upset when I found out that I could have just read the short stories that made up the book on his website for free.
Tucker Max puts together quite a tale of drunken debauchery and womanizing. Initially, Max reminds me of the drunk assholes I hated while working as a bouncer. But after I read a few more pages Tucker's charisma comes through so strongly I actually begin to enjoy him, imagining myself buying rounds of Red Bull and Goose if we ever met in a bar. I kept laughing out loud and nodding my head every so often because he portrays the truth of an adult male growing up in America. Although his stories are all the same (Drunken asshole does something stupid and mean, most likely to a woman) the stories never get old or boring. Each short has a lesson learned or a truth to be told that is different from the rest.
Max's short stories claim to be 100% accurate, but seem a little contrived[AP] to me. At times his story seems a little "too good" and could quite possibly been changed to make the story even better. If this is the case, I thank him. I enjoyed his book immensely. I anticipate the release of his next book Assholes Finish First.
